1. Make your mouth or hand do what your mind is learning.
Study out loud. It helps you learn better, and it helps with pronunciation and speech. Study with a friend, you will be
practicing speaking and listening too! Try to write sentences or a short paragraph using the skills you have practiced orally.
2. Study every day.
You can’t get by in Spanish by cramming at the last minute. It is much easier and more effective to study a little every day
rather than trying to learn everything at once.
3. Occasionally go back and review `old' topics and vocabulary.
Language learning is cumulative. You learn new skills on the basis of old ones. The more you `recycle' familiar information
and skills, the better you will be able to integrate new ones.
4. Don't be afraid to make mistakes.
Everyone makes mistakes, and there is nothing to be embarrassed about. Practice makes perfect. You don’t start out
perfect. You make mistakes and then learn from them.
5. Use flashcards.
Make and use flashcards with English on one side and Spanish on the other. Flashcards are a good way to study by
yourself and with a partner.
6. Label your surroundings.
Label things around your room and house. Maybe your parents and siblings will learn some Spanish too! :)
7. Be Patient.
You don’t learn a language all in one day. It takes time. You didn’t learn English in a day so don’t expect to learn Spanish
that way either.
8. Use Spanish as much as possible.
Speak Spanish with your friends who are also taking Spanish. If you go to a Mexican restaurant order in
Spanish. If you have a native speaking friend practice with him/her. Use it whenever you get a chance
especially in Spanish class!
